isumu Japanese Buddha Statue - Medicine Buddha and Seven Bodhisattvas
The sculpture, known as the 【Medicine Buddha and Seven Bodhisattvas】 is considered the oldest and was commissioned by the Empress Komyo of the time, in order to pray for the Emperor's eye ailment to recover soon.
It is located in the Shinyakushiji Temple in Nara and was carved during the early Heian period. The sculpture consists of the Medicine Buddha with six Bodhisattvas forming the seven figures. Inside the main hall, you can see the "Sitting Statue of the Medicine Buddha" and the Twelve Yaksha Generals, which evoke a sense of solemnity and admiration.

Statues should be handled with care:
- Avoid hitting, dropping or otherwise applying pressure on the statues, since the delicate parts of the statue may be broken
- Use brushes to remove dust from the statues. Cloths etc. should not be used because the fiber can damage the smaller parts of the statues
- Do not wipe the statue with damp cloth etc. because water-soluble paint may be used
- Direct sunlight or heat should be avoided
