Why was it named "International Bodhisattva Sangha (IBS)"?
Because a Bodhisattva is a companion who walks the path with the Buddha, seeking enlightenment and wanting to help others attain enlightenment. This is precisely the purpose of IBS: "Enriching oneself, sharing oneself."
Whether it's the old plum tree and large rock at the entrance, or the water wall and semi-open space, IBS doesn't adhere to the traditional form of a temple. It actually reflects the essence of Buddhism, with the aim not being to increase followers, but to assist each individual in finding their own answers.
===
International Bodhisattva Sangha (IBS) is a Buddhist temple located in central Taiwan.
The design concept of this book is “Dharma is a way of life, and everyone is Bodhisattva.” The book binding design is based on the façade of the temple and the paper of its cover contains the seeds of the tree which is also planted in the temple.
Readers are like travelers visiting the temple when they open the book. The cover of the book leads the readers to the entrance of the temple. There is a small window with a small Buddha print on it simulating the small Buddha statue on the water-curtain wall of the temple. The mirror card behind the cover will reflect the readers’ images when they open the small window which leads them to a journey of finding their true selves and discovering their mind. There is one fold-out page printed with the photo of the Buddha Hall and the page next to it is cut out with gratings simulating the night view of the Buddha Hall. The view looks just like a jewelry box in the night. When it is complete dark outside in the night time, the scenery of the light in the Buddha Hall radiates through the grafting is like the good and brightness shared by the Bodhisattva. The design intends to express the idea of the true quality of life — a person should look for the answers of life by himself/herself but not reply on their belief in other people.
