IBS Year 2027 Wall Calendar

Learning the Dharma requires opening wisdom, and "contemplation" (觀) is the key.

To contemplate means to see clearly, to be aware. When the mind can observe and discern, that very awareness is contemplation itself.

When we face or observe circumstances, can our mind remain free and at ease?

Bodhisattvas train their minds through various methods, so that no matter what situation arises, they can respond in harmony, with focus and integration.

Although Bodhisattvas have not yet eradicated all afflictions, they do not create negative karma because of them. With the wisdom of emptiness, they see that afflictions have no true substance, and thus they are not swayed by them. They know what methods to apply so that afflictions lose their influence - or even cease altogether. This is the Bodhisattva's diligent practice of contemplation.

Take Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (Guanyin) as an example: his thousand hands and eyes, each holding a Dharma implement, symbolize the skillful means he uses to benefit sentient beings.

When our mind abides steadily in practice, nothing is impossible. This is concentration and meditative strength. To remain free within circumstances- that is meditation.

True freedom means not being carried away by afflictions, but attaining liberation and peace. That is genuine freedom.

The wish-fulfilling jewel (摩尼寶珠) in the Buddha's hand represents the pure mind. It fulfills all aspirations, hence it is called the "wish-fulfilling jewel."

Our task in life is to polish this jewel, keeping it free from dust. The mind must abide in clarity. Only when the mind is pure and free can it be boundless.
